The Korean government has its sights set on the global service robot market, and is revising past plans that targeted the general robot market. According to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Korea aims to become one of the world's top three robot manufacturers by 2018.

Korea plans to invest 1.5 trillion won including 1.2 trillion won by investment from the private sector over five years by setting a goal to be a "Smart Mobile country." To that end, the Korean government expects to generate 16.9 trillion won in revenue in the mobile industry in five years.

The Ministry of Knowledge Economy reported to President Lee Myung-bak that it will invest 1 trillion won (US$ 867 million) in the nation's software industry over the next three years. The investment will be focused in areas such as software convergence, embedded systems and public software areas that can attract small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
