Korea's telecom regulator, the Korea Communications Commission (KCC), plans to press mobile operators continuously next year in their marketing budgets, urging them to invest in WiBro, the local version of mobile WiMAX, along with the deployment of Long-Term Evolution (LTE). The KCC set its flagship service including 3-D TV, cloud service, machine-to-machine and N-screen, and will invest in core technologies such as high-definition TV, smart TV and future Internet.

While LTE (Long Term Evolution) is gaining momentum, the device has been facing new challenges in delivering "rich multimedia services," according to Samsung Electronics vice president, Min-goo Kim. He also mentioned that it is necessary to solve the need to merge wired IP devices and mobile devices into one device.

Intel, the US-based chipmaker, decided to invest in WiBro (Wireless Broadband), the Korean version of mobile WiMAX.
Intel Capital plans to invest $20 million in WiBro Infra, a joint venture with KT, Samsung Electronics and Intel. In May, KT announced it was close to a creating a joint venture with Intel and Samsung Electronics aimed at spreading WiBro.
