First NFC-enabled Phone Available in Korea

KT and Samsung Electronics unveiled last Wednesday a NFC (Near Field Communications)-enabled mobile phone and plan to launch the mobile-payment-supporting phone in the local market this month.

The Samsung NFC phone (model SHW-A170K) offers more diverse mobile payment services than previously available technologies such as USIM-based payment service, according to KT.

Microsoft's latest smartphone operating system, Windows 7, was unveiled on phones by Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics and HTC.

Samsung will launch its Omnia 7 in France and LG plans to release the Optimus 7 in Europe and Asia this month. Samsung's 4-inch Omnia 7 will be unveiled in coming months in Europe, Singapore, Australia and the United States. AT&T will release the phone as the Samsung Focus, according to the company. 

KT Paying for an iPad for all 30,000 Employees

While Apple's iPad is expected to launch in November in the local market, KT, the distributor of tablet PCs, plans to pay for iPads for its 30,000 employees, according to an exclusive report by SmartphoneNow on Tuesday.
