
KT, Korea's top fixed-line operator and No. 2 mobile carrier, said it will spend 5.1 trillion won (US$ 4.31 billion) on fixed-line and wireless networks over the next four years to cover surging data traffic mainly generated by smartphones and forthcoming tablet PCs.
KT will allocate 2.4 trillion won for 3G networks and 1.67 trillion won for Long Term Evolution (LTE) services.

In the second quarter, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have maintained their global ranking thanks to an increase in mobile phone shipments. However, both Korean companies' operating margins dropped because of a lack of competitiveness in smartphones which provide higher margins than regular phones.
