Korean Smartphone Market Update: Q1 2010

Expecting over 25 kinds of Android-based smartphones to come out this year by the three mobile carriers - SK Telecom, KT and LG Telecom - the first quarter was warm-up for the upcoming fierce competition. SK Telecom wants to re-seize the initiative in the smartphone market and has been making a strenuous effort to herald Android itself with massive advertising promotion and an application development contest for developers.

Why is KT Kicking Out Huawei From the Mobile WiMAX Project?

As of March 24th, Chinese equipment manufacturer, Huawei, has been excluded from KT's large-scale mobile WiMAX project. The superficial reason given is that Huawei will not be able to meet KT's new requests for specific functions within the timeframe requested. However, rumor has it that KCC, the Korean telecom regulator, is behind the curtain of this uncommon situation.

The Former King of Samsung Lee Kun-hee Returns: Poison or Good Medicine?

Former chairman of Samsung Group Lee Kun-hee has returned to management as chairman of Samsung Electronics as of March 24th. Previously, in April of 2008, Lee resigned from Samsung after facing charges of tax evasion.

At the end of last year, the Samsung chairman resumed outside activities after receiving a pardon from President Lee Myung-bak in hopes that he could help the country win a bid to host the 2018 Winter Games.
